CLIENT : TAIREA FAMILY
LOCATION : MAUKE, COOK ISLANDS
PLOT : 3850M2
YEAR : 2023
TYPE : MIXED USE - EDUCATIONAL & RESIDENTIAL
SCOPE : CONCEPT DESIGN & VISION

Nestled on the tranquil island of Mauke in the Cook Islands, Project Sunrise emerges as a testament to harmonious collaboration and a visionary commitment to sustainability. This groundbreaking initiative is the result of a unique partnership between the Tairea family, POU Architecture, and Differential.

Initiated on a piece of jointly owned land by the Tairea family, Project Sunrise seeks to weave together the rich cultural heritage of the Cook Islands with cutting-edge architectural and ecological principles. The ambitious vision behind this project is to cultivate an eco-village and educational hub, serving both the immediate community of Mauke and welcoming students from neighbouring islands.

Under the cultural guidance of the Tairea family and POU Architecture, combined with the innovative touch of Differential, the design encompasses a harmonious blend of residential facilities, a large-format kitchen, and a marae — a cultural and spiritual focal point.

What sets Project Sunrise apart is its commitment to education, featuring a state-of-the-art fab lab and workshop. This facility not only supports local artisans but also opens its doors to students, fostering a spirit of learning and creativity. As the sun rises over Mauke, the eco-village stands as a beacon of sustainable living, where architecture, culture, and education intertwine to create a model for a brighter, greener future.
